TN Promise

Tennessee Promise is both a scholarship and mentoring program designed to help more students attend college in Tennessee. It provides students a last-dollar scholarship, meaning the scholarship will cover tuition and fees not covered by the Pell Grant, the Wilder-Naifeh Technical Skills Grant or state student assistance funds.

In addition to helping reduce tuition costs, Tennessee Promise provides one-on-one guidance from a mentor who helps students navigate the college admissions process. This is accomplished primarily through mandatory meetings that students must attend to remain eligible for the program. In addition, Tennessee Promise participants must complete eight hours of community service per term enrolled.

TN Reconnect Grant

The Tennessee Reconnect Grant is a last-dollar scholarship that pays the remaining balance after other state and Pell Grants have been applied. It is available to qualifying students attending Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology.

Criteria

  • Be a Tennessee resident and U.S. citizen
  • Have an independent status on the FAFSA
  • Enroll full-time at a Tennessee College of Applied Technology
  • Be in pursuit of a certificate or diploma
  • Maintain continuous enrollment and satisfactory academic progress

Applying

You do not need to complete a separate application for the Reconnect Grant. To be considered, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This helps ensure you are considered for all federal and eligible state aid. Because Tennessee Reconnect is a last-dollar scholarship, it covers remaining tuition costs after other qualifying aid has been applied. For eligible students, that can mean tuition-free education at a TCAT.
