This one-year program will prepare students to work as pharmacy technicians in wholesale or retail pharmacies, long-term care facilities, hospitals or other healthcare settings. Classroom instruction includes anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pharmacy math, pharmacology, top drugs, law and ethics, third-party reimbursement, keyboarding and job preparation. Supervised clinical training is also provided. Students who complete the program will be prepared to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE).
Pharmacy technicians prepare medications under the direction of a pharmacist, and may measure, mix, count, label, and record amounts of medication dosages according to prescription orders. The program is designed to provide learning experiences and basic competencies that students will need for employment.
